Photo Referencing Tips.
Experiment!
Don’t be afraid to play around with the angles and have fun! Sometimes when you capture a moment that’s not purposely posed such as someone laughing, it can really bring a piece to life as it looks more natural and raw.
Multiple People
For family portraits where multiple people will be brought together from different photos, please send 2-6 photos of each person involved, the more photos the better! This is so I can choose the best ones to put together to create the most natural looking composition. Working from a photo where the subject appears small or blurry is like trying to draw or paint someone who’s half way down the road instead of in front of you! Don’t be afraid to zoom in taking clear, sharp photos with good lighting.
Keep the Detail!
Try taking a step closer to your subject rather than zooming in as it can lose the detail. If you don’t have photos of everyone together, I can always merge photos and figure out a composition that works for you!
Memories
If you’re wanting a commission of a loved one who has sadly passed away, don’t worry! Send me any photos whether they’re recent or old and I will do my best to work with the photos you provide me with.
